About Me

This site contains information about my ancestors, Southards and many others, including Griffins, Smiths, Vromans, and Fitzgeralds. This site is not intended to provide definitive historical research. If you want to cite something I've included here, I suggest you verify it elsewhere as well. I won't make things up, but some information will be speculation.

My background is in law and history. My mother, Marjorie Smith Southard, did extensive genealogical research over the years -- mostly pre-Internet. Since my retirement, I have tried to add to her work and also make some of her information available online.

As a historian, I am not only interested in my ancestry, but in other events that were happening during the lives of my ancestors, some of which they may have been involved with. For example, I have at least five ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War and three in the Civil War. I am interested in constructing stories about what may have been happening during their lives.
